Tours Description

Cambodia's recent past was anything but idyllic. The remains of the long civil war and the years of terror under the regime of Pol Pot are still present. The aim of the non governmental organizations (NGO) is to develop the country and help the underprivileged, conserve Cambodia’s beautiful nature and enhance economic development.

This tour combines the highlights of the country and shows the country’s development and progress with the support of NGO’s.

Day 1    Phnom Penh – Arrival : L,D
30Arrival at Phnom Penh International airport and transfer to hotel.
Lunch at hotel
Phnom Penh city tour by cyclo including Silver Pagoda, Royal Palace and Wat Phnom.
Dinner at Friends Restaurant. This place provides training for street children and offers very good and healthy food.

Day 2    Phnom Penh : B,L,D
Breakfast at the hotel
30Visit the National Museum, the Russian Market and the notorious Tuol Sleng, the genocide Museum. Lunch at " Pour un Sourire d'enfants". This NGO opened a school and teaches the Cambodian youth to work in the tourism industry.
Stop at Cambodian Children Orphanage for Living and Training Organization “ CCOLT” founded by Mr.Thourn Sinan , allows children from poor families and orphans to get access to education and helps and trains them for a better life and future. This center has been feeding and housing 30 kids and provides schooling for 350 students.
 
Embark on a boat and enjoy the sunset cruise on the Mekong and Tonle Sap
Dinner at local restaurant and transfer to the hotel.

Day 3    Phnom Penh- Battambang : B,L,D
Breakfast at the hotel
30Drive to Battambang by National road No 5 and visit to the ancient capital Oudong. Discover the large stupas where the ashes of three former kings are preserved. Stop for a short visit of Ban Chkoul village which is famous for its pottery.

Lunch at local restaurant, After lunch we explore the floating and fishing Village of Kampong Chhnang Province where a thousands of families are living on the water.
Arrival in Battambang and city tour to view its beautiful houses dating from the French colonial time
Dinner and accommodation at the hotel.

Day 4    Battambang : B,L,D

P1060051Transfer by coach to the Bamboo Train station. The Bamboo train has been set up by the villagers to facilitate the transportation of goods and people. The train itself is very basic, one platform on 4 wheels activated by a small motor. Sitting on the platform you will travel 8 km to the next station through beautiful landscapes and rice paddies. On arrival, visit the village and explore the daily life of the Cambodian countryside. Stop at a workshop specialized in wooden sculpture. Continue to the local NGO “La Maison de Coco”, a program for underprivileged families.

Lunch at hotel.
Drive to Phnom Bannon Hill. Climb the 337 steps to reach the Prasat Bannon temple dating from 12th century and enjoy the breathtaking view over the surrounding plains. Visit the Phare Ponleu Selpak association working with street children on different activities like circus, drawing and traditional music. For groups with more than 10 participants, the visit will be followed by a circus performance by the students.
Dinner and accommodation at the hotel.
 
Day 5    Battambang – Siem Reap: B,L,D

Departure from Battambang to Sisophon in the morning after breakfast. Arrival at the PASS office at Phnom Srok and short briefing by a specialist about the Silk development project.

Leave the office by traditional “Koyoan”, a rattling vehicle used by farmers to transport all kind of things.
Drive along a red soil road through villages where the clock seems to have stopped. Water buffalos and cows will cross your way instead of cars and motorbikes.
The villagers live in small communities in wooden houses with thatched roofs. The few tourists in this area receive all a very warm welcome from the people in the village.

Learn about the techniques of mulberry growing, silkworm breeding and weaving from the skilful women in the different villages around Phnom Srok. All this different levels of production can be seen on the loop around the small hill. A specialist from PASS will be with you all time and explain the techniques.

Picnic lunch at a pagoda.
Continue by car or bus the Silk trail and pass the artificial lake built by the Khmer Rouge.
Leave the Phnom Srok area in the afternoon and continue to Siem Reap.
Upon arrival check-in at the hotel.
Dinner and accommodation at the hotel.
 
Day 6    Siem Reap :B,LD

P1100048Start the visit of the Angkor area by an elephant trek from the South Gate of Angkor Thom to the Bayon. Visit the fascinating Bayon Temple, Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King.

Lunch at the hotel
Explore majestic Angkor Wat. Continue to West gate of Angkor Thom, taking a Khmer Traditional boat (Angkor Gondola) to Prasat Chrong Temple by the Tonle Oum water way. You will enjoy many different bird and nature sounds and songs and spend the afternoon exploring Siem Reap's colorful rice paddies and local houses with best sunset view before continuing by Angkor Gondola to South Gate of Angkor Thom.
Dinner at a local restaurant and accommodation at the hotel.

 

Day 7    Siem Reap : B,L,D

P1100048Drive to Phnom Kulen where the 500 year long age of Angkor began. It is also the mountain on which Jayavarman II proclaimed independence from Java in 820 declaring a unified and independent country under a single ruler.

Picnic lunch on the site
Return back to the city and continue to visit the Eco-Village resort with more then 250 hectare land. Enjoy fishing and an ox cart ride around the resort to have fresh air and a view of the rice paddies until sunset.
Enjoy the open sky BBQ dinner before returning back to hotel.    
 
Day 8    Siem Reap : B,L,D

IMG 2398Visit of the Sangkheum Center for Children. This orphanage and agricultural center provides education and vocational training to children (aged between 4 and 17) to enable them to re-enter the community with valuable skills for their future success. Stop at Handicap International, an NGO helping Cambodian people since 1982. The remnants of the recent civil war have left a number of disabled as a result of landmines and unexploded ordinance. The center provides an environment where people with disabilities can receive treatment such as fitting prosthesis or physiotherapy sessions.

Lunch at local restaurant
30Stop at Jayavarman VI Kanta Bopha hospital, one of the 3 children hospitals created by the Swiss Dr Beat Richner. In these medical centers each year around 40.000 kids receive treatment free of charge since the families are simply too poor to even make a small contribution towards these medical costs. Without the hospitals, more than 3000 children would die in Cambodia every month.

Day 9    Siem Reap – Departure

Visit les Artisans d’Angkor which provides training to young Cambodians in an effort to revive the ancient Khmer traditions of stone carving and wood sculpting. Stroll in the old market for some last shopping
